The 3 Steps | Care for Washable Pads

There are so many ways to care for your pads that it can be confusing! Don't panic, it all boils down to 3 simple steps:

1- Manage soiled pads;

2- Apply a stain-removing treatment (optional);

3- Laundry day.

Step 1: Manage your Washing Pads

We've got better things to do than wash our used pads, one by one, after every use, don't we? Here are our techniques for storing them until the big wash day.

  • Soaking Technique

    A popular technique for preventing stains and recommended for maintenance of Öko-Pads.

    Method

    1. Leave a container of cold or lukewarm soapy water in the bathroom;
    2. Place soiled pads in the container throughout your cycle;
    3. IMPORTANT - Change the water every day for a maximum of 2 days.

  • Lazy Method

    No time to fool around? Stains are not a problem?

    Method

    1. Place soiled protection in a dry place. Example: a container or breathable bag.

  • Rinse Technique

    No room for a bucket in the bathroom (or 5, as there are several menstruating women at home)? this technique is for you.

    Method

    1. rinse soiled pads in cold water to remove as much blood as possible;

    2. let pads air-dry.

What can you do when you're not at home?

Use a carrying pouch and slip your soiled intimate protection products into it.

Once at home, proceed with your chosen technique: soak, rinse or set aside for washing.

Step 2: Stain Remover Treatment

Why do a treatment?

  • You'd like to avoid or reduce stains on your washable pads; Your pads seem to have become less absorbent over time;
  • Your pads give off a "funny" smell after washing when they become damp again;
  • Your pads have become irritating for no particular reason.
  • Pre-wash treatment

    1- Rinse or soak your washable pads in cold water to remove excess blood;

    2- Fill a bucket with 1 liter of lukewarm water and dissolve 2 Öko-Capsules or 6g of sodium percarbonate;

    3- Add your reusable pads. Soak for 3 to 12 hours.

    IMPORTANT - Do not reseal container.

  • Machine wash treatment*

    1- Add detergent as usual;

    2- Place 3 Öko-Capsules or 9g of sodium percarbonate directly into the drum of your washing machine;

    3- Add your washable pads. Wash in lukewarm water.

    * This treatment is done at the same time as step 3 on laundry day.

  • Treatment with Öko-Clean

    1- Rinse off excess blood.

    2- Spray Öko-Clean on your protection.

    3- Leave for 5 minutes to allow the product to penetrate effectively into the fabric.

    4- Wash with lukewarm water and mild detergent.

Step 3: Wash Day

Because of the many different types of washable pads available on the market, it is always advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, i.e. type of cycle (delicate, normal, etc.), water temperature (cold, warm, hot) or any other guidelines.

Öko-pads can be added to a regular load of clothes, towels, etc. at cold or warm temperatures. Favors laundry loads that will offer friction between items and thus help with cleaning. In other words, a small load containing only menstrual pads won't be any more effective.

Well-rinsed or pre-soaked and wrung-out pads (from which as much blood as possible has been removed) shouldn't stain your white clothes.

Tips:
- Add an extra rinse if you're very sensitive to irritation.
- Your pads will be more absorbent after a few washes!

Machine dry, hang dry or dry naturally in the sun

Once again, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying products, whether machine-dried or hung to dry. Öko Créations protections can be put in the dryer at medium or low temperature, or hung to dry. It's worth noting that the sun can be an excellent stain-removing and bleaching agent. So take advantage of sunny days to hang your washable pads on the clothesline and let them dry naturally.

Warning

  • Always check the manufacturer's instructions before washing or treating your pads.
  • Wash your Öko-Pads before using them for the first time.
  • Never use bleach or fabric softener. They irritate the skin and reduce the effectiveness and life of the pads.
  • Do not use detergents with fabric softener formulas included.
  • Never wash with items with Velcro-style fasteners.
  • Do not wash or dry Öko-pads at high temperatures, as this may affect the life of the waterproof membrane.
  • Do not use conventional stain removers (such as Oxyclean), as their composition and/or method of use and/or dosage are not suitable for Öko-Pads.
  • Do not use Öko-Capsules or sodium percarbonate on leather, silk or wool blends.
  • Use glycerine-free soaps to avoid soiling your pads.
  • Hot water cooks stains. Once baked in, they are very difficult to remove.
